US man questioned in wife's disappearance at sea raises suspicions
Police in the Bahamas are set to interview Brian Hooker again regarding the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, who reportedly fell overboard from their dinghy. Brian Hooker, who has been detained since April 8, stated that his wife went missing on April 4 while they were traveling from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. He claims that she fell overboard and was carried away by strong currents after he lost sight of her.
The police extended Hooker's custody by 72 hours following an initial three-hour interview. His attorney, Terrel Butler, confirmed that the police requested another interview for Monday. Hooker has not been charged with any crime and maintains his innocence, stating he is cooperating with the investigation.
Doubts about Hooker's account have been raised by family members. Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, expressed skepticism, stating she did not believe her mother would simply fall from a boat. Aylesworth suggested that the incident might have been pre-planned. Lynette's mother, Darlene Hamlett, emphasized her daughter's experience with water activities, saying she has always been comfortable around boats.
The couple had a tumultuous relationship, with past allegations of assault between them. Text messages from Lynette in early 2024 revealed that the couple had previously decided to separate but later reconciled. Aylesworth noted a history of conflict between the couple, particularly when alcohol was involved.
The couple operated social media accounts under the name The Sailing Hookers, documenting their sailing journeys across the Caribbean. The investigation continues as police seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding Lynette Hooker's disappearance.
