Woman sentenced to 15 years for supplying drugs linked to Perry's death
Jasveen Sangha has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in supplying illegal drugs to actor Matthew Perry, who died from the acute effects of ketamine in 2023. During her court appearance, Sangha expressed regret, stating, "I take full responsibility for my actions. These were horrible choices that ultimately proved tragic." District Judge Sherilyn Garnett agreed with the prison term recommended by federal prosecutors, emphasizing that Sangha's continued sale of ketamine after Perry's death demonstrated a lack of remorse.
Sangha pleaded guilty in September to five felony drug counts linked to Perry's death. Her defense lawyers sought a sentence limited to time already served, but Judge Garnett imposed a harsher sentence, noting that Sangha's actions contributed significantly to Perry's demise. Perry had previously chronicled his struggles with substance abuse in his memoir published in 2022. Federal officials indicated that Perry became addicted to ketamine during treatment for anxiety and depression, ultimately turning to alternative sources for the drug.
Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen," admitted to selling 51 vials of the drug to a go-between, Erik Fleming, who then sold them to Perry through the actor's personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. Prosecutors allege that Iwamasa injected Perry with at least three doses of ketamine from those vials, leading to his death. Sangha's sentence was notably harsher than those received by two doctors involved in the case, prompting frustration from her lawyer, Mark Geragos, who argued, "There’s no way that Jasveen is five times more culpable than the person who injected Matthew Perry with the drug, or the doctor who got the drug."
